Hollywood Film Awards: Bella Heathcote's Gucci Dress Steals the Show
The young Australian actress cinched a newcomer award at the first awards gathering of the season, but her dress was a full-on star.
For an actress at an awards show, it's not easy to stand out in a room with Marion Cotillard, Amy Adams and Amanda Seyfried. And they all looked pretty spectacular at the Hollywood Film Awards at the Beverly Hilton on Monday night.
But it was young Australian actress Bella Heathcote who had the standout dress of the night -- a dusty pink Gucci off-the-shoulder cocktail sheath made up entirely of a violet-tinged-pink kind of circular paillettes. Heathcote is working with celebrity stylist Penny Lovell who also dresses fashion-forward Rose Byrne (hello, Elie Saab Couture jumpsuit!).

With her sandy bangs falling in her eyes, and natural makeup, the young Australian actress -- who appeared in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows and is now the star of David Chase's Not Fade Away -- is making a name for herself in the U.S.
Appearing in films by Burton and Chase is no small accomplishment, and she did get a rising star award at the Hollywood Film Awards. But that dress really set her apart. It turns out that her stylist is Penny Lovell, who also dresses Rose Byrne and Ginnifer Goodwin - two of the best dressed actresses in Hollywood. Bella and Penny clearly make a good combo.
Cotillard wore a black flared-skirt cocktail dress with tiny straps; Adams wore a black gown with short sleeves and an illusion neckline. Seyfried donned a very bright red corset-bodiced dress with a flounced skirt that had a slight Gunsmoke saloon-girl kind of feeling.
STORY: It's All Fun and Games at the Hollywood Film Awards
Cotillard and Adams were subdued and reverent; Seyfried a bit over the top. Heathcote got it totally right -- wearing color stands out in a room full of black; shine is always fun and attention-getting. Gucci makes a killer cocktail look, and pink on her skintone was really flattering. She was dressed like the only person having fun with their look, and Gucci really brought the goods.
Let's hope she turns up at more red carpets soon -- she's this year's Felicity Jones, a jolt of fashion energy and light.
