Hollywood Has 2 Hot, New Hair Salons Opening Within Weeks
Meche' is opening this week on Burton Way -- from Tracey Cunningham and Neil Weisberg -- and Jonathan and George will open Jan. 1.
Didn't we tell you this town is all about hairdresser hopscotch? But the customers reap the rewards when hair colorists and stylists re-team and jump around, because it means new salons result -- and it's always good to keep the blood pumping with newness and adrenaline.
This past year saw celebrity colorist Tracey Cunningham (who was on the cover of THR's beauty issue in November) leave the Byron and Tracey Salon on Civic Center Drive in Beverly Hills and team up with hair cutter/stylist Neil Weisberg, whom she worked for at the Neil George Salon, also on Civic Center Drive. Now Cunningham and Weisberg are opening Meche' Friday, Dec. 14, at 8822 Burton Way, a longtime Beverly Hills salon space that they've completely refurbished.
There will be 20 stylists and 22 chairs; a good thing, as Tracey does the color for Amy Poehler, Cameron Diaz, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Garner, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, Jennifer Lopez and Sofia Vergara, to name a few. Plus, it will be open on Sundays. This is particularly great for awards shows (which are always on Sundays) and for working women who can't get to the salon during the week. We all know Saturdays are packed!
When Tracey was at Neil George, it was the place to go, plus to see and be scene. We're sure Meche' will become a hot new celeb spot in no time at all. (FYI: Meche' means "lock of hair" in French.)
And in the former Neil George spot on Civic Center, Amanda George will open with celebrity hair stylist Jonathan Antin -- one of the first hair stylist reality show stars (Blow Out) -- a new salon concept called Jonathan and George. Between the two of them, they do Victoria Beckham, Kate Hudson and Leonardo DiCaprio, and have enormous experience and incredible relationships.
Will these two new salons go head-to-head, tete-a-tete, in terms of competition? Jonathan and George will throw open its doors (9320 Civic Center Drive) on Jan. 1, just in time for the Golden Globes.
