Designer Jason Wu Featured on USA's 'Out of Character With Krista Smith'
The Vanity Fair editor's one-off interview program also features "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane and actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

Krista Smith, West Coast Editor of Vanity Fair, and author of many a major celebrity interview in the magazine, can be seen tonight (Jan. 11, 2012) late night on USA Network branching out into the world of the talk show. "Out of Character With Krista Smith" is right now a one-off special, but it could turn into a regular show.
What's different about this one from the multitude of others? The nature of the interviews is much more intimate, unrehearsed, informal - Jason Wu, who is best known for designing Michelle Obama’s inauguration dress, gave Smith a tour of his 5000 square foot design studio loft.

“He was so great, really interesting. His mother moved him out of Taipei when she realized he was different and would not be allowed to be who he was. She supported and nurtured Jason's gifts … He went from a young struggling designer to doing two thousand interviews in one night. I wanted to know how Jason kept his creativity fluid and paced himself after that. His career is absolutely growing strong."
Smith interviews Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane at his home, and Gwyneth Paltrow came to Smith's home and cooked cheesy turkey burgers - live. What surprised her about each?
"Seth admits he wants to get married and have children - sometime soon. And - he has a cat. He doesn't seem like a cat person. Gwyneth cooked like a pro, then sat down and ate a cheesy turkey burger. That is something I was not expecting. And she brought her own special buns from New York."

And how does Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter feel about her doing this? "This is separate from Vanity Fair," Smith told The Hollywood Reporter. "The show is not affiliated with the magazine. Graydon gave me the okay to do it. If anything happens with it, things might have to change for me. But I really love my job."
Blown away that MacFarlane has a cat. He couldn’t exactly have a dog, working all the time. In his house. I asked where the cat was – probably mutilated some animal somewhere.
