Johnny Depp's 'Dark Shadow' Posters Recall Andy Warhol's Pop Art Portraits
Count on director Tim Burton and his longtime collaborator to bring the goth to the swinging '70s in his update of the classic, campy soap opera.
Warner Bros. has released nine movie posters for Johnny Depp and Tim Burton’s much anticipated Dark Shadows film.
The highly stylized (and vaguely Warholian) Pop Art posters showcase the various main characters: Depp as the flamboyant vampire Barnabas Collins, Michelle Pfeiffer as his long lost love Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, Helena Bonham Carter as Dr. Julia Hoffman, Eva Green as the evil witch Angelique Bouchard, Chloe Moretz as Carolyn Stoddard, Jonny Lee Miller as Roger Collins and Jackie Earle Haley as Willie Loomis, all featuring the tagline "Strange is Relative."

These posters serve their purpose well, creating a frisson of anticipation for a campy spin on the ‘60s soap opera about a vampire, a witch, a curse, combined with ‘70s fashion, disco music, bell-bottoms, even a lava lamp or two.
According to Burton’s take on the original, Barnabas is a swinging bachelor who breaks Angelique’s heart. She then turns him into a bloodsucker and buries him alive, er, undead. Of course, he escapes after a hundred or so years and finds himself in the early '70s -- much to his horror and everyone else's.

Another newly released still shows the entire cast seated in an Edwardian drawing room, looking all pale and creepy, rather like Downton Abbey meets The Addams Family.
