Kate Hudson Designs a Red Carpet-Inspired Capsule Collection for Ann Taylor

Kate Hudson has been modeling for Ann Taylor, long known as the working woman's go-to clothing line, since spring 2012. And she's signed on again for the spring 2013 season. But she will also create a capsule collection for the womenswear company that will hit stores in May.

She joins a list of designing celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Jessica Simpson, Katie Holmes, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Victoria Beckham and Nicole Richie.

Her upcoming collection, which she worked closely on with Ann Taylor creative director Lisa Axelson, is reportedly inspired by her bold red-carpet style, but "reinterpreted" for everyday occasions.

"Working with Ann Taylor has been a great creative experience, and there is a really wonderful connection," she says about the partnership. “Ann Taylor is great at creating iconic wardrobe staples and updating them season after season. I love that Lisa Axelson is designing clothes for real women."

Perhaps Hudson can help boost the less-than-chic image of the working women's line. In a recent episode of HBO's Girls, one character is not hired because she wore an outfit that looked like it came from Ann Taylor. Ouch.

One assumes that her personal style may also influence the capsule collection -- which makes sense, since Kate's stylist is none other than Rachel Zoe. Referring to her style, Hudson says, "I hate the word 'bohemian,' but it sort of is."

She recently received raves for her black and gold Alexander McQueen Golden Globes gown and wore a stunning Prabal Gurung red gown to last fall’s amfAR event in Los Angeles. She carefully stores her favorite pieces on a regular basis, something she learned from her mother, who did not.

'"I archive a lot of my pieces from when Stella [McCartney] was at Chloe and Tom Ford at YSL and Gucci," Hudson told WWD.

"My mom never kept her clothes. She was big into Azzedine Alaia clothes and she didn't keep them! She also had Ossie Clark dresses from the '70s, and I never got to wear them. So I decided when and if I have a little girl in my life, maybe she'll be into them and want to go into my closet someday."
