Kate Middleton Dons a Jaunty Purple Velvet Hat By British Milliner Jane Corbett for First Royal Christmas
2:13 PM PST 12/25/2011 by Elizabeth Snead
The Duchess of Cambridge's chapeau was made by a woman who was trained by the Queen Mother's milliner, Rose Cory.
Kate Middleton didn't disappoint the large crowd that gathered to see her on Christmas Day. She and Prince William led the senior Royals to the Christmas Day church service at Sandringham today. It was the first time Kate has attended the service and thousands of well-wishers turned out to see the newest member of the Royal Family.
Sadly, Prince Phillip, 90, was not present as he is recovering from his heart operation at the Papworth Hospital near Cambridge. The new Duchess of Cambridge wore a deep purple coat made by an unidentified independent British dressmaker, according to a Palace spokesman, who added "The Duchess is keen to use independent British dressmakers, whose skills and craftsmanship she admires." Kate also wore a jaunty velvet hat -- in a slightly different shade of purple -- designed by Jane Corbett. The hat maker, who is based in Hungerford, Berkshire, describes herself as a 'couture milliner and artist' on her website. STORY: Kate Middleton's Alexander McQueen Wedding Dress Becomes Part of Buckingham Palace Tour Corbett has been creating bespoke hats for more than 15 years and was trained by the late Queen Mother's milliner, Rose Cory. So clearly Kate is getting into the tradition of royal dressing. And Corbett also designed the pale blue hat worn by Kate's mother Carole Middleton when she attended her daughter's royal wedding. According to Corbett's website, every hat is hand-crafted to suit each client, their outfit and occasion. And the photos of her creations are so stunning that they make one what to wear a Corbett hat. Or at least have an occasion to wear one.THR's Daily Must Feeds
