The political magazine's editors used the face of the Duchess of Cambridge, aka Kate Middleton, on their August cover, giving her a set of yellow, poorly-spaced teeth courtesy of photo editing.

The 30-year-old wife of Prince William is shown in front of a tattered Union Jack alongside the headline: "Something's Rotten: The Last Days of Britain."

Inside are several articles about the state of the United Kingdom just prior to the summer Olympics being held there; the issue has sparked a lot of outrage online.

The cover is particularly grating in the U.K. because it’s A) riffing on a stereotype of British dental hygiene, and B) because the Duchess is popular among Royal watchers.

Not to mention that, according to reports, she has had her teeth whitened to achieve a picture-perfect smile.

The New Republic's snarky Kate cover recalls the time poor Prince Charles was featured as a cartoon with crooked, stained teeth on The Simpsons. In the episode, Lisa Simpson's orthodontist showed her "The Big Book of British Teeth."
