Kim Kardashian Sells More Clothes Than Kate Middleton, Says Roland Mouret (Poll)
London-based French designer Roland Mouret reveals that the reality TV star drives more clothing sales than the Duchess of Cambridge.
Kate Middleton has been a grand ambassador for British designers since becoming part of the royal family. But at least one designer thinks that her Impact is far less than Kim Kardashian's.
London-based French designer Roland Mouret has dressed both young women. Middleton donned one of his cream gowns at Claridge's last year. It was an historic moment as it was her first flash of leg since marrying Prince William. But Kardashian is also a big fan and just wore Mouret's orange fitted gown to the Marine Corp Ball.
"You don't see hundreds of women running around looking like her," he said, referring to Middleton. “To be honest, we're more likely to get orders on a dress that Kim Kardashian's worn," he told the Telegraph.
The designer attributes this unexpected discrepancy to the fact that the Duchess of Cambridge is thrifty, wears her dresses more than once and isn't keen to draw media attention, unlike Kardashian who wants the media to follow her every move.
On Middleton's fashion choices, Mouret tells the Telegraph: "She's highly attuned to those details that will provoke a tabloid frenzy and above all, she does not want a tabloid frenzy. She doesn't seem to feel the need to dress sexily to woo the world. She's dressing for William and herself."
Mouret reveals that Middleton asked him to make that Claridge's cream frock a bit looser. “She doesn’t want a bottom situation like Pippa had,' he explained.
Mouret earned the title of "king of the dress" after his 2006 lean and glamorous Galaxy dress -- worn by Victoria Beckham, Cameron Diaz and Scarlett Johansson -- was dubbed by fashion magazines as the “dress of the decade.”
Mouret has been a bit out of the limelight of late, having lost the rights to his name to former backers. But he's coming back strong with a new collection, RM. It's possible we’ll see nominees wearing his designs on the Golden Globe, SAG or Oscar red carpets.
One of Mouret's most memorable red-carpet moments was when Johansson wore one of his curve-enhancing dresses at the 2006 Golden Globes. The scarlet gown was so amazingly designed that designer Isaac Mizhari (then a carpet critic for E!) actually squeezed the starlet’s breast on live TV to check out Mouret's support system, provoking the actress to call the move "in poor taste."
That’s exactly the kind of attention Middleton would avoid like the plague.
