Kimberly Ovitz Launches Eco-Friendly, Lower-Priced Clothing Line
The young designer may be benefiting from the expertise of Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon, who's currently dating her father, former Hollywood power player Mike Ovitz.
Kimberly Ovitz’s hotly anticipated capsule collection, O by Kimberly Ovitz, begins trickling into stores this month.
On April 10, the young designer's lower-priced line was formally launched at Curve, a boutique on Mercer Street in New York. Guests noshed on rock candy and sipped Skinny Girl libations while checking out the Spring/Summer 2012 super-soft tees and dresses that retail for less than $200 and are available in black, white, peach and coral.
At the launch, Ovitz was wearing one of her own O creations, a slouchy, long black dress, which she described to reporters as “cozy, easy, accessible, approachable.” The new line is made of eco-friendly Tencel material, and the line's minimal, modern designs are inspired by best-selling pieces from her larger collection that debuted on the runway during New York Fashion Week.

Ovitz, the daughter of CAA founder and former Walt Disney Co. president Mike Ovitz, has been designing for 4 years, and her work has been compared by fashion critics to the easy body-conscious clothing of Alexander Wang and Jil Sander. Marie Claire crowned her “the next Donna Karan.”

Naturally, her dad was an early investor in his daughter’s successful fashion company. And his new girlfriend, Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon, is also a fan of the line. Mellon even brought her daughter, Minty Mellon, to the April 10th NY preview party. Kimberly is also planning a line of purses, which should benefit from Mellon's expertise in the luxury accessory market.
O by Kimberly Ovitz is available to purchase online here. You can also find the line at LA boutiques such as Beige, Arcade and Satine in West Hollywood, Tribute in Santa Monica, and at various Madison stores in Malibu, on Third Street and in Brentwood.
