"This is really the height of L.A. fashion,” mused Children’s Institute Inc. Executive Vice President Nina Revoyr at the 25th annual Spring Luncheon hosted by non-profit women’s group, the Colleagues. Yet there wasn't a young Hollywood starlet in sight at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on April 9. And stunning as they were, Revoyr wasn's referring to models perched on pedestals in Spring 2013 Oscar de la Renta, but rather the style of the attendees — fashionable philanthropists with no need to approximate Hollywood glamour because, well, many of them lived it.
Each year, the Colleagues invite an esteemed group to lunch and a runway presentation — this year hosted by de la Renta — to benefit the Children’s Institute. The rest of the year, they raise funds via the Colleagues Gallery, their high-end resale boutique in Santa Monica where members and friends donate their impressive wardrobes. “Their fundraising very directly supports programs to help women and children who have been domestic violence victims,” among other initiatives, said Revoyr, “and we’re very fortunate to be the recipients of all their hard work.“
From what we saw at lunch, Colleagues Gallery shoppers are pretty fortunate, too. Though the charitable clique resembled excited schoolgirls when this year’s honoree, Wallis Annenberg, entered the room, sophistication was on full display through refined silhouettes, jewel tones, and Van Cleef & Arpels jewels— another event sponsor. And who are they wearing? “Oh, Oscar of course!” Colleagues President Alexandra Dwek revealed in a fire engine red frock (and nearly every guest echoed).
