Lena Dunham Announces 'Girls' Nail Polish Collection Inspired by the Show's Female Characters
Move over, Kim Kardashian, Selena Gomez and Katy Perry. The Emmy-nominated writer-director-actress is launching a polish line just in time for the season two premiere of her hit show.
The creator-director-star of HBO's buzzed-about series, Girls, Lena Dunham, has teamed up with Deborah Lippmann on a collection inspired by the series' four female characters. There’s “Hapless Hunter Green” for main Girl Hannah, played by Dunham, "Prim and Proper Pink" for Allison William's Marnie and "Virtuous Vivid Violet" for Zosia Mamet's Shoshanna. Naturally, the polish for Jessa, played by Jemima Kirke, is called "Bohemian Burgundy."
Don't be surprised — Ms. Dunham is quite a fan of bold and fun nail décor. "Deborah Lippmann's colors are irreverent and classy and I've always coveted them (and stolen them from my mother), so who better to embody the Girls' spirit in polish form," her statement reads. "I've been wearing Hannah like it's going out of style."
Although somehow we were hoping for a line of tattoo designs like Lena's two houses inked on her back. We can but dream.
Dunham is far from alone in the nail polish-as-entertainment brand arena
Justin Bieber has a line of nail polishes. And his (former?) girlfriend Selena Gomez has an Opi line of 14 shades due out early next year. Opi is also working with the Kardashians for their Kardashian Kolors polishes, as well as Fergie and Katy Perry. Nicki Minaj has polishes named after songs on her Pink Friday album. And Jersey Shore alum Snooki is hawking hers on HSN this holiday season. You can't miss 'em; they have zebra striped caps. To top it off, HBO's vampire series, True Blood, and the movie The Hunger Games also have polish lines.
The Girls-y polishes won’t be shipping until around Jan 15. But you can preorder them here for just $45.
The collection should hopefully arrive in time for the series two premiere on Jan. 13. The new season – according to Dunham – will involve sex and sharp objects.
Is she talking about cuticle nippers or nail files?
