'Les Miserables' Costume Designer Paco Delgado On His First Oscar Nod: 'I Was a Little Bit Nervous'
The Spanish designer has received an Oscar and a BAFTA nomination for his costumes in the hit musical.
Les Miserables costume designer Paco Delgado was on the set of a film shooting in Spain Thursday, Oscar nomination announcement day. The nominations were due to be announced around 2:30 his time.
“I was pretty calm until around 11:30 and then I got a little bit nervous, Delgado tells The Hollywood Reporter exclusively. "But I didn’t know that they didn’t announce the technical awards at that time and I thought, “Oh my god, I missed it!”

Needless to say, the winner of two Goyas, aka the Spanish Oscars, is thrilled with his first Oscar nomination. As well as his BAFTA nod.
“You just never know how a film is going to turn out or how your work will look. You are always so concentrated on the work every day. It’s not until the movie is finished that you can see the world you created.”
“Being nominated was never in the back of my mind,” he insists. And right now he’s just enjoying the moment.
And he’s also enjoying being nominated for another Goya, for a Spanish film called Blancanieves, a twist on the Snow White fairy tale set in 1920s Seville about a female bullfighter. His costume design nod was one of the 18 nominations the film has received.
It kind of makes Les Mis' eight Oscar nominations and its nine BAFTA nominations pale by comparison, which is pretty hard to do.
Delgado says he will be coming to L.A. for the Costume Designers Guild Awards, if he's nominated. And how could he not be?
