New York-based designer Maria Cornejo, whose line Zero Maria Cornejo, is sold at Barneys and at her own two stores -- N.Y. and L.A. (Melrose Place), doesn't get to spend much time in Los Angeles, despite having opened a store here two years ago. And her slightly avant garde geometric and colorful clothes are perfect for L.A. life, and worn by many in Hollywood. So we've all been waiting for a serious L.A. visit.
This Saturday (June 9), Cornejo is opening the doors of her West Hollywood boutique at 8408 Melrose Place -- where the spring and summer collection is happily on sale -- for a little fete for artist and jeweler Alice Waese. Waese does original drawings, silver and gold jewerly, and she has a limited edition book that the store will feature graphics from.
Also, the Zero pre-fall collection has arrived, and even though it's online, it's great to see the pieces in person. It's impossible to know anything about these clothes unless one sees them on the body. They tend to be assymetrical and hang in very particular ways. Saturday's event is noon to four, and Cornejo's fashion shows in New York always draw artsy crowds, so we expect the same in L.A.
