We knew photographer extraordinaire Annie Leibovitz - who's shot many Vanity Fair covers over the years, and is famous for her major celebrity location productions - will receive the 7th Annual MOCA Award to Distinguished Women in the Arts at a luncheon on Tuesday. We knew Saks, Akris and Vhernier were the sponsors of the private event. We know it will be a room packed with interesting people, and there will be an Akris fall fashion show.
But what we didn't know is that Maria Shriver is presenting Leibovitz with the award. This raises the whole bar on the event, and gives us a hint of the level of people who will be there.
Leibovitz is a star in her own right, not just a photographer of stars. She, along with names like Mario Testino, Michael Thompson, Stephen Klein and Steven Meisell, has created a school of portraiture in photography that includes sets, high fashion, locations - and major imagination.
