Mindy Kaling Fake-Tweets New York Fashion Week; Spoofs James Franco, Anderson Cooper, Ryan Lochte
The star of Fox's upcoming "The Mindy Project" imagines fictional foibles, seat scuffles and celebrity snafus to hilarious results.
Office alum and Mindy Project star Mindy Kaling decided not to attend New York Fashion Week. But she did decide to “Fake Fashion Week Tweet" by speculating about imaginary incidents at the real shows with stars such as Adrien Brody, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anderson Cooper and Olympian Ryan Lochte.
The results? Frighteningly realistic and totally hysterical.
"Was late to Alexander Wang because couldn't drag Adrien Brody out of bed at Trump Soho. [English TV host] Fearne Cotton put her backpack on my seat, though, yay," Kaling joked. "At Y-3, Joseph Gordon-Levitt asked who made my bra. 'They're bespoke, of course.' 'Huh?' he responded, unable to hear over the din."
She also faked an injury sustained at another show. "Great, nearly blinded by a rhinestone flung off a gown at Jenny Packham," she tweeted. "Adrien and I now at Columbia Presbyterian [Hospital]."
Later, the actress tweeted that she was "thrown out of Diane von Furstenberg for allegedly asking James Franco if he 'was DTF at DVF.' Adrien and I no longer speaking."
She even drew one of President Barack Obama’s daughters into the fashion fray. "Took off [my] heels and pretended to be Malia Obama to sit front row at Prabal Gurung," Kaling wrote. "It worked until [teenaged fashion blogger] Tavi [Gevinson] and Anderson Cooper ratted me out."
There were, of course, the inevitable seating scuffles at the shows. "Is this a joke? Ryan Lochte is sitting in my seat at Tory Burch!" she tweeted. "Texted [Special Adviser to the Secretary of State] Ronan Farrow about it; he was giving a symposium or something."
Even Kaling’s Parks and Recreation pal Aziz Ansari, 29, got into the fashion act, tweeting to Kaling. "I got you and [Alexander] Skarsgard on list for Alex Wang party," he wrote. "Secret location is Whole Foods on Bowery (VIP area: frozen foods.)"
If this is any indication of how funny Kaling's new show, The Mindy Project, will be, we're tuning in for the premiere, Sept. 25 at 9:30 p.m. EST on FOX. If you can't wait, you can watch the premiere episode on Facebook.
