New York Fashion Week: Pamella Roland Goes for Rich, Russian-Inspired Splendor
The red carpet designer showed lots of faux fur, intricate embroidery and embellished red carpet gowns.
WHO: Pamella Roland
WHAT: Fall 2013 runway show New York
WHEN: Feb. 11, 2013
THE FRONT ROW: Kevin Jonas and wife Danielle, Carmen Electra, Roland's BFF Nigel Barker (America's Next Top Model)
THE MOOD/INSPIRATION: Ornate and over-the-top. Roland's show, themed "From Russia With Love," was inspired by the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg and opened with the sound of cathedral bells. Plenty of opulent details such as golden metallic embroidery, high ruffled lace and chiffon collars and a dark, moody palette.
PHOTOS: Grammy Awards: 17 of the Raciest Dresses
COLORS/FABRICS: Midnight blue, deep plum and rich mossy green with gold. Mixed textures such as lace or brocade and leather worn together and metallic tweeds with faux fur. There were super-skinny leather leggings and lots of sheer illusion and leather panels on daytime and evening looks. Ostrich feather shoulders on silk georgette evening gowns and feather boleros.
KEY TRENDS: More is more. Roland didn't shy away from intricate embroidery, beading, feathers, fur, etc. Leather played a big role in the collection.
RELEVANCE TO HOLLYWOOD: Roland's a red carpet regular thanks to her partnership with Los Angeles-based PR firm Film Fashion that works with many of the celebrity stylists (Film Fashion also reps Jenny Packham, Tadashi Shoji and David Meister). Jennifer Hudson, Vanessa Hudgens, Christina Aguilera, Kellie Pickler and Julianne Hough have all worn Roland's gowns to various awards shows.
RED CARPET WATCH:The elegant evening gowns with ostrich feather accents were very old Hollywood glam.
