New York Fashion Week: Stars Bundle Up As Shows Go On, Despite Snow
Allison Williams, Bono and Elizabeth Olsen brave Nemo to attend presentations from Richard Chai, Jason Wu, BCBG, Edun and more.
The shows are going on. Despite the piles of snow dumped on Manhattan by the blizzard Nemo, the fashion community is made of sterner stuff. It's pretty much business as usual, but with a few more layers, with gloves, hats and pairs of Ugg boots (shudder) replacing stiletto boots. All the better for making it through the reported 11.4 inches of snow in Central Park, 10.9 on the Upper West Side and 7.5 in Greenwich Village.

It seems like every designer is following Betsey Johnson's lead when she tweeted, "Getting snowed in this weekend! No snow will stop me it’s fashion week! But be safe Betsey babes Xox" -- along with a photo of a model wearing a turquoise ski-suit, holding hot-pink snow-skis.
And Michelle Obama's fashion friend Jason Wu told reporters that he didn’t even have a contingency plan for his show held in a Park Avenue church. Wu, who has dressed the first lady for both inaugurals, presented a predictably tailored collection, with a black-satin trench coat with fur pockets, some plaids, stovepipe pants, peplum (FLOTUS’ fave silhouette) with crisp white shirts.

He included feathery cocktail dresses and pleated gowns in black, white and ink georgette, with belted waists. Highlights were the military coats (yes, a few in red) and separates in wool and lace. His military-inspired coats looked more Downton Abbey than West Point. We especially loved the bright-red versions. And we're betting the first lady will be loving his new fall styles.
Actresses Jaime King and Girls star Allison Williams wore new Wu to sit in his front row. So did supermodel Stephanie Seymour, with her fashion-influencer Upper East Side sons, Peter and Henry Brant.

More famous front-row faces spotted include:
Christina Ricci and Ashlee Simpson at the Richard Chai show; British singer Kate Nash at BCBG; Parks and Recreation star Rashida Jones at the DAnnijo presentation; and Elizabeth Olsen at the AG Cher Coulter event. Bono attended his and his wife’s Edun Fall 2013 show, spotlighting a line that encourages trade in Africa. Project Runway star Heidi Klum has been omnipresent, including backstage at the Kenneth Cole show.
