Nicole Kidman Poses Topless (and Semi-Bottomless) for Risque Cover (Video)
Tom Cruise's second ex-wife steams up her image just days after Katie Holmes becomes the third woman to be granted a divorce from the actor.
Nicole Kidman, nominated for an Emmy for her performance in HBO’s Hemingway & Gellhorn, really loosened up for her recent shoot with famed photographer Mario Testino.
And while she had a lot of designer clothes for the shoot from Chanel, Lanvin and Miu Miu, she eventually ended up wearing … nothing.
The V Magazine writer, Jacob Bernstein, who was present at the intimate photo shoot, described the shift in focus.
“We have now reached the point at which Kidman is lying on the ground in a bra and panties with a red fur coat falling off her, in what is sometimes referred to in fashion circles as the dead girl pose. Most any other actress of her caliber (there aren’t many) would likely say, “You know what? I don’t think so.” Or someone from her camp would swoop in and with a tap on the shoulder inform the stylist and creative team that things were going just a bit too far."
But the only protests from her publicist Leslee Dart were about the shoot running long, Nicole maybe missing her plane, and who will get all the bronze body paint off her.
Buh-bye, buttoned-up image.
Kidman’s career is getting racier too. Her new film, The Paperboy, directed by Lee Daniels (Precious), is about a journalist (Matthew McConaughey) and his younger brother (Zac Efron) who are trying to rescue a death row inmate (John Cusack).
Kidman is cast as Charlotte, who obsessively writes to prisoners awaiting execution, and decides to marry Cusack's character. Visiting him for the first time, Charlotte winds up pretending to perform oral sex in front of his lawyer. A few scenes later, she goes to the beach with Efron’s character and urinates on him after he is stung by jellyfish. (Urine is said to reduce the pain and swelling.)
“The peeing thing, I didn’t think was that weird, because I was in character,” Kidman says in V. “That was for the jellyfish. And for me it said so much about Charlotte. One, she’s protecting him. Two, she’s tough as nails and no one else is going to pee on this guy. All of that made total sense to me. I just went for it and didn’t overthink it.”
Her next films include Stoker, a mystery directed by Park Chan-wook, and then playing Grace Kelly in Grace of Monaco. She also has a cameo in The Nymphomaniac, a new film from controversial director Lars von Trier, whom she worked with on Dogville in 2003.
This is the film that also stars Charlotte Gainsbourg and Shia LaBeouf, who has revealed that the sex will be for real. "It is what you think it is," LaBeouf explained to MTV. "There's a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says, we're doing [the sex] for real."
Kidman explains her involvement: "Lars sent me the piece and said, ‘I wrote a part for you.’ He’s done that before and I’ve gone, ‘No you didn’t, Lars, and I’m not playing it.’ But this time I really liked the character, and I like Lars. I think he has made some terrible, terrible statements and mistakes, but I don’t think he really meant what he said," referring to his anti-Semitic remarks at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. "If he did, then I would not be friends with him.”
