Lanvin Dresses Charlize Theron, Judy Greer at the Palm Springs Film Festival Gala
The chic French label designer by Alber Elbaz adorns the actresses in two very different cocktail looks.
The label spread sheet by luxury house at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala showed a variety of designer choices: Prabal Gurung, Elie Saab, David Meister, Alexander McQueen - with Lanvin and Prada both scoring two actresses apiece. Both Charlize Theron and The Descendant's Judy Greer were the lucky ladies to snag Lanvin.
It's practically a foolproof French label for cocktail clothes, since designer Alber Elbaz rarely creates a bad looking dress.
Theron's Lanvin was a kneelength sheath with slightly wide shoulders for a sleevless dress - the shape was a bit reminiscent of an inverted triangle - but it suited her height and long legs. She wore her hair back with chic diamond drop earrings on the long side - yes, longer earrings on awards show red carpets are really making a comeback. But they only work with a very sleek pulled back hairstyle. Big hair and long earrings don't mix. In fact, they conflict.
And Greer wore a blue-ish green-ish Lanvin cocktail dress in an entirely different silhouette - very rounded and origami like at the bust and hips. It was a much softer and more retro look, whereas Charlize's dress was quite architectural.
Are we likely to see any Lanvin gowns at the Golden Globes? Yes, particularly if Julianne Moore is a presenter, she's a big fan of the brand. But since Lanvin's gowns have very little structure and are always flowey and soft, it's a toss up. The last few years of Golden Globe gowns have featured much more structured and embellished looks.
