Paris Fashion Week: The French Ingenue Designers Are Fighting Over
With a new film out this week and an effortless style, you should meet Agathe Bonitzer, a 23 year-old actress drawing major-label attention.
PARIS — Actress Agathe Bonitzer is making a definite mark on France's film scene. The daughter of acclaimed French directors Pascal Bonitzer and Sophie Fillieres, the 23 year-old was a finalist for the Cesar’s “most promising” award in January, thanks to her role in A Bottle in the Gaza Sea.
And now, like most up-and-comers with a covetable cool girl style that looks like she stepped out of an A.P.C. ad, Bonitzer is being courted by the fashion flock (she's appeared in ads for French basics brand Thomsen with other artsy Parisian It-girls including Paulina Lempicka and Noemi Ferst). Of course she's also been making the front-row rounds at Paris Fashion Week.
At Friday night’s Sonia Rykiel show (which started one excruciating hour late) Bonitzer let her edgy, yet reserved aesthetic shine in a thigh-length baseball jacket in gold lamé seersucker. “I love [Rykiel’s] ideas of femininity,” she told The Hollywood Reporter after the flashbulbs died down. Other fashion favorites? “Anything that fits me,” mused the petite, willowy redhead. But when pressed, her favorite labels came out. “It’s tough for me to choose, but I love Vanessa Bruno. And Yves Saint Laurent.”
The self-professed fashion lover has so far kept her film career close to home (she's appeared in five French films in the past year alone). Despite her latest film Au bout du conte hitting theaters this week, Bonitzer isn't sure how an English-language Hollywood crossover would be received.
"I would love to go there," she says of her desire to branch out to the States. "But I don’t know if they would have me. I’m just a little French actress.”
