PGA Fashion: It's Black With Textural Elements for the Awards This Weekend
Jennifer Garner, Kerry Washington, Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts all break out the black gowns and dresses - touched with lace - for the PGA Awards Saturday night.
Black lace couldn't be having a bigger moment: it was the primary statement in eveningwear for fall and now it's carrying over to spring - but now it's showing up in hem detail and yoke details and insets on the dresses and gowns that actresses wore to the Producer's Guild Awards at the Beverly Hills Hotel. An inventive way to dress up at a night that really belongs to the movie producers who put the movies together. Actresses here want to look reverent - but reserved.
Kerry Washington's chic French lace strapless corset dress with a frill hem was by Marchesa and so is her pink ostrich "Simonetta" bag - it's the frilly hem and the pink bag and the deep pink lip that really make it all work. It looks like Kerry's added some highlights to her dark hair lately as well.
Jennifer Garner - whose husband Ben Affleck took home the SAG Award for Argo - donned an Oscar de la Renta knee-length cocktail dress with a lace overlay and a tulle flower hem. It's that flowery tulle hem that gives it the detail and the pop. She added small Cartier earrings and Brian Atwood pumps and managed to look perfect, but fashionable as well. It's all about the hem in this instance.
NIcole Kidman's low backed high-necked gown with lace yoke was by her friend and stylist L'Wren Scott (Spring 2013) - it was very stately and regal, and to this she added Fred Leighton art deco platinum, diamond and onyx earrings - and Kidman waved her hair, but wore practically no makeup.
Her pal Naomi Watts was in a Victoria Beckham over-the-knee Spring 2013 sheath dress with a a point high collar and lace mesh insets at the waist and back, giving it a textured zap to the basic blackness of it all.
Juliana Margulies and Jessica Alba also wore black to the PGAs. Does this mean we'll see a boatload of color at the SAGS? We'll know in a few hours.
