Prabal Gurung's Fall Fashion Show Trends: Blue and Black, White and Gold
The lauded New York designer has become one of Hollywood's top go-to guys for eveningwear.
2011 was the Year of Prabal Gurung. Sarah Jessica Parker and Zoe Saldana wore his unique evening dresses made of rich fabrics, juxtaposing textures and complicated prints on the red carpet more often than almost any other designer.
His spring 2012 collection -- shown in September of 2011 -- has been worn so often by actresses already that almost every piece has been seen. His pre-fall clothes are now being dispersed to important stylists and actresses, and we can all be sure that the elaborate cocktail looks of his fall collection shown this past week in New York will be turning up sooner rather than later. We could almost make a list of who might be wearing which ones to the Vanity Fair and Elton John Oscar parties -- let alone New York's Met Ball in May and the Cannes Film Festival.
Saldana sat in the front row of the fall show, at which Prabal did three major trends, two of which we predict will hit Hollywood hard: angular tough edged all black (always relevant in New York), ornate blue and black print brocades with hints of white and silver, and then angelic dresses in white with gold -- one with a fully feathered white skirts. Many had drop waists and flared skirts -- the silhouette was often a fitted bodice and a fuller skirt, which is a popular Prabal look for spring right now. Blue and black, white and gold are both new looking color combos that feel very right now.
Expect the hippest Hollywood women: Rooney Mara (who's already worn Prabal), Jessica Chastain, Drew Barrymore, Chloe Moretz, and of course, SJP, to start working these trends before they even hit the streets of New York.
