24 Hour Catwalk, a new reality design competition, debuted Tuesday, January 10 on Lifetime.
The difference between it and Project Runway and all those other countless fashion-competition shows, being that four designers compete to make an entire collection in just 24 hours. This is more a test of endurance than design, pattern making, and construction. Who can stay up that long?
What stands out about this show is the cast. The judges are: designer Cynthia Rowley, fashion pr maven James LaForce and NY journalist Derek Blasberg.
If there's anything these 3 know, it's fashion. They at least have real NY fashion credibility.
Host Alexa Chung is the most high ranking fashionista in London - doing battle with Kate Middleton, and usually winning, since Alexa tends to wear Chanel and Oscar de la Renta, but she wears them in the a very casual almost messy lowkey English way. In fact, her hair is known for its messy look.
We looked up online to see what the British critics think of the show, as they've already seen it via DVD: "just awful" was the verdict in the UK Telegraph. They also mentioned that Alexa needs to brush her hair.
This is her second turn at trying to host a show in the U.S. - the first was called It's On With Alexa Chung. That one went nowhere. Let's see if this one fares any better. Who could make a decent collection in 24 hours is beyond us. Even Karl Lagerfeld couldn't do that.
