Red-Carpet Fashion Face Off: Jessica Biel's Versace vs. Anne Hathaway's Givenchy (Poll)
Both actress wore over-the-top couture and may have learned that sometimes less is more on the red carpet
Red-carpet trend-setters Jessica Biel and Anne Hathaway are high on every designer's list and are considered great "gets" in the celebrity-dressing biz.
But both actresses at their new film premieres opted for top designers' long slinky gowns, which have evoked bewilderment from among the online fashion crowd.

Biel chose a slashed bodice Atelier Versace couture creation with one sheer sleeve for the New York premiere of her romantic comedy Playing for Keeps. But even Jessica's bared chest doesn't make this complicated gown entirely work.
Hathaway went bead crazy with a draped sleeve, bare-backed white Givenchy halter gown for the New York premiere of Les Miserables. The dress is from Givenchy's Spring 2012 couture collection, but unfortunately looked less overpowering on the runway than the red carpet.
The drapey batwing sleeves only serve to make her look skinnier than she does in the film, in which she plays a starving prostitute. She reportedly lost 25 lbs. for the role of Fantine and told The Hollywood Reporter that she had to stop eating for 13 days to get the weight off.

While we understand the desire for over-the-top glamour during the holidays in New York, several red-carpet critics have pointed out that there’s just too much going on with both dresses. Huffington Post even dubbed Hathaway's choice "befuddling."
Perhaps these actresses would have been better off selecting simpler, less fussy designs that don’t take attention away from their natural beauty and svelte shapes.
