Rooney Mara, Emma Watson, Keira Knightley Are Rodarte Fashion Junkies
The Oscar-buzz actresses are going gaga over the designer. Will they buy the book?
Ever try to count all the celebrities who have worn Rodarte on the red carpet? Here (deep breath) goes: The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara, Dakota Fanning, Harry Potter hottie Emma Watson, Kate Bosworth, A Dangerous Method ss Keira Knightley, Melancholia star Kirsten Dunst, Oscar winner Natalie Portman, Mia Wasikowska and singer Taylor Swift. Elle Fanning, Saorise Ronan, Beyonce and Swift even sat in the front row at Rodarte's recent Spring 2012 fashion show, eyeing the exquisite femine dresses in distorted prints inspired by Vincent Van Goth's paintings.
Why are Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s intelligently inspired and eloquently ethereal designs so darn popular? Find out tomorrow night (Oct 19) at the Hammer Museum. For the first time, the designing sisters join acclaimed photographers Catherine Opie and Alec Soth to discuss their collaboration on the new photo book, Rodarte. The sisters actually wrote the text and Opie’s boldly colored portrait series features models such as Idexa, Jenny Shimizu, Kate Moenning, Guinevere van Seenus, Riley Keough and Frankie Rayder.

Meanwhile landscape photographer Soth traveled California to photograph the Pasadena-based sisters' emotional connections to diverse areas such as Berkeley, Big Sur, Santa Cruz, Joshua Tree, and the Salten Sea. His documentary style and distinctive eye evoke a personal history of Kate and Laura and puts their fashions in a new perspective.
The limited edition book (2000) was published by JRP/Ringier. If you can’t make the Hammer event, check out the book on Amazon.
