Yes, Models Have Their Own Year-End Rankings Too
Like actresses, models have some very good years, even stand out ones -- but what's the criteria? The amount of ad campaigns they're in, runways they've walked, covers they've graced.
The actresses who've made the biggest impressions in 2011: Jessica Chastain, Viola Davis, Emma Stone, young Shailene Woodley -- are the ones who showed up in the most films or the best films or both. Fashion models outside of Giselle may not be household names anymore, as most magazine covers are now actresses wearing designer clothes, pushing their latest movies -- but that doesn't mean some models didn't have a very good year, too.

Karlie Kloss, Arizona Muse, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. These are the newish faces -- and bodies -- that were most ubiquitous in magazines and ad campaigns and runways this year. Kloss, who is American and 19 years old, was all over fashion shoots in Vogue, Bazaar and Elle, and recently did a major nude layout in Vogue Italia shot by star-making photographer Steven Meisel, that established her nickname as "The Body." She also walked the runway in many shows, and then, in November, the big Victoria's Secret show -- not too many high fashion models crossover with Victoria Secret or lingerie models, Giselle Bundchen being the obvious exception. Muse, who hails from New Mexico and who is the mother of one, starred in the David Yurman jewelry campaign, the Louis Vuitton campaign, and walked almost every major runway. Her short bob, bushy eyebrows and heart shaped face set her apart. Also ubiquitous in a different way, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, the British model (and girlfriend of Jason Statham), was both the face of the new scent Burberry Body, and the star of the sequel to Transformers, which pushed her into big box office territory -- she even scored power broker pr man Stephen Huvane to represent her (his other clients are Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Anne Hathaway).

And Giselle didn't have a bad year, all in all, either. The U.K. Telegraph says she made $45 million dollars in 2011, as the face of Versace, Ferragamo and Givenchy, and she graced a big 13 magazine covers internationally. There are plenty of actresses whose income and exposure didn't come close. But whether Karlie, Arizona or even Rosie will become major actresses is another matter entirely.
