Seth MacFarlane's Oscar Night Grooming Routine, Under-Eye Concealer and All

Love him or hate him, you'll likely agree that Seth MacFarlane cleaned up well on Oscar night, with a clean-cut look and killer smile that seemed to ooze confidence. 

And though she can't take credit for those pearly whites, the Gucci tux or the jokes that worked, grooming expert Diana Schmidtke is responsible for the fresh look MacFarlane sported while hosting the Academy Awards on Sunday night.

The Los Angeles-based groomer, who has handsomed-up a slew of A-list faces, including George Clooney, Jon Hamm and Robert Pattinson, began MacFarlane's grooming routine at The Art of Shaving in Beverly Hills, where the funnyman partook in a Royal Shave ($55, theartofshaving.com) -- a 45-minute, four-part shave that includes skin-prep oil, a clay mask, toner and aftershave balm. The purpose of which, according to Shmidtke, was to prevent a five-o'clock shadow from appearing even well into the after-parties.

Afterwards, Schmidtke applied Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer ($26, kiehls.com) to hydrate the skin and Peter Thomas Roth Max Anti-Shine Mattifying Gel ($36, peterthomasroth.com) to minimize MacFarlane's pores and give him a matte finish under the intense lights of The Dolby.

Although it's common for Schmidtke to use multiple makeup products on her male clients, she says she only needed a bit of Jouer Age-Repairing Concealer ($24, jouercosmetics.com) under MacFarlane's eyes to help cover up some of his pre-Oscars lack of sleep.

"I used a combination of shades 3, 4 and a little 5 for some warmth," says Schmidtke, who adds that "regular guys" are wearing cover-up more frequently these days. "When applied correctly, no one will know it." 

For MacFarlane's hair, Schmidtke used Aquage Transforming Paste, which gave it piecey texture without looking overly done. She finished with Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Spray Shine, which Schmidtke likes because it gives just a dusting of shine without an over-the-top gleam. 

After all, we had that in the form of his personality.
