'Stars in Dior': A New Book for Hollywood Fashion Lovers
The house of Dior in Paris is releasing a book with art publisher Rizzoli featuring stars past and present in iconic looks by the iconic designer and his successors.
The new Rizzoli hardback art book Stars in Dior ($65) is coming out in France this May and in the U.S. this September, with a cover featuring the J'Adore Dior girl herself, Charlize Theron. The book includes photos of Charlize and Natalie Portman wearing Dior, as well as Old Hollywood greats Marilyn Monroe and Marlene Dietrich.
It turns out that couturier to the stars Christian Dior -- and creator of 1947's famed "New Look" (still part of the Dior aesthetic, a jacket with a tight waist and peplum worn with a wide full skirt) -- started his career in 1942 as a costume designer. His Paris couture house was eventually created in 1946, but obviously, Dior had a penchant for dressing film stars.
The book contains 250 photos of film stills, location shots, photographs, and of course, portraits of actresses wearing Dior. We don't know if Dior's more recent star models Marian Cotillard or Mila Kunis are featured, but it's definitely a good collectible for Hollywood fashion people who love, love, love their images and often attempt to reinvent them.
