US Vogue and CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) have teamed up to raise money for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Prominent fashion figures have pledged to help those affected by the disaster with an auction that offers nearly 150 once in a lifetime opportunities such as dining with the famous red-soled shoe designer Christian Louboutin, attending a fashion show with Anna Wintour and her team of Vogue editors, lunch with Diane Von Furstenburg, or a week’s stay at Tommy Hilfiger’s private island estate. The bidding is open internationally to those over 18 years of age. The auction isn’t limited to only fashion experiences as actress Gwyneth Paltrow and chef Mario Batali offer dining in New York with the famous pair, or a chance to attend the The Great Gatsby premiere to meet director Baz Luhrman. {Telegraph}
Karl Lagerfeld has given his seal of approval on the hiring of Balenciaga’s new designer, Alexander Wang. He tells website ModMods in an email, “As the impression we have had so far is that Mr. Pinault [CEO of PPR, which owns Balenciaga] very much wants to ‘expand’ this area of business, I believe that Alexander Wang is the best man for the job. His fashion is easier, his personality is more open to the world and he has very good contacts.” {Telegraph}
