L.A. Fashion News: Target to Open Three City Stores; YSL Comes to Hollywood
Target's urban-focused store concept will have locations in Westwood, downtown and the Grove, while the new Saint Laurent Paris might be based in L.A.
Every day, it seems, Los Angeles gets closer to becoming a real fashion town.
The British Show Rooms project, where the major English designers have showrooms here twice a year, will add to the fashion climate of the city, and of course, Prada and Dior on Rodeo are in the midst of renovations (both are in temporary stores).
Now, Target will open three of its new City stores here, and YSL's Hedi Slimane is considering moving a lot of the brand Saint Laurent to our fair shores.
At a lunch at the Chateau Marmont in honor of stylist Petra Flannery last week -- who is eight months pregnant with her first child, a boy, as one could see in her white Chanel knit dress -- Target spokespeople let slide that their new City store concept is opening in Westwood before the end of July. A big party will ensue, and invites, we're promised, are going out soon.
City will be a smaller Target and will carry all the things that people in urban areas grativate toward, though for summer, a grill and deck chairs will be part of the stock. The next L.A.-based City will be in downtown L.A. near Figueroa and Sixth Street, and the last one -- coming before Christmas -- will be at the Grove. Now we want to see some new designer collaborations so we can hang out at the mall again!
In other L.A. fashion news, word on the street is that Slimae, YSL's new design director, wants to move the base of operations from Paris to Hollywood.
Slimane moved to Los Angeles after he stopped designing for Dior Homme a few years ago, and took up a career as a photographer. He had a number of shows and published many photos when he was recruited back to Paris, as full designer of YSL. Recently, we read that he insisted YSL be changed to "Saint Laurent Paris."
Now all kinds of L.A. fashionistas are fluttering about with this news. But would he move the entire design team and studio to L.A.? One does expect Saint Laurent Paris to be hiring some Angelenos soon.
