On Monday, we recounted only some of the debauchery brought on by a weekend of Coachella soirees. But there were other events that we divided and conquered during our Indio/Palm Springs jaunt. So may we present part two of our desert party diary, again filled with all the feathers, fedoras and top 40 pop hits befitting a proper Coachella weekend.
What: StyleCaster X UGG Australia StyleHaven
Where: A private home in Palm Desert to celebrate the launch of UGG's new nonfurry boot footwear collection.
Who: Bloggers, bloggers and more bloggers. Sydne “Sydne Style” Summer, Jace “The Grungy Gentleman” Lipstein and Lindsay “Saucy Glossie” Calla, who told THR, "I'm normally a city girl, but as soon as I land in California, I embrace my bohemian style." Ah, if only we had cities in California.
The Music: DJ Theory and DJ Chelsea Leyland spun lotsa rap.
Cliche Count: By 3 p.m. THR spotted 15 crop-tops, four flower hair pieces, six cutoff and skittle-colored denim shorts and eight espadrille wedges that were part of UGG's new collection. Plus, about 10 misplaced frat boys.
Overheard: NYC-based superblogger and “TJ Maxxinista” Calla contemplating a permanent move to Los Angeles and several hungry partygoers asking, "Is there any food left?" There wasn't.
FLOWER CHILDREN: Bloggers including Song of Style's Aimee Song (second from right) displayed major flower power at the FIJI LACOSTE pool party.
What: FIJI @ LACOSTE L!VE's DESERT POOL PARTY
Where: A sprawling private home amid grassy fields, cabanas and pools and enough Patron to go around.
Who: Alexa Chung, Elijah Wood, Alessandra Ambrosio, Joe and Nick Jonas, AnnaSophia Robb, Chris Pine, Theophilus London and Katy Perry in a matching crop top and skirt featuring The Joker from Batman.
The Music: Loud and thumping courtesy of DJs Tennessee Thomas and Ana Calderon.
Cliche Count: THR spotted 15 bandanas, 30 Forever 21-esque neon tops and 10 miniskirts worn with leather boots.
Overheard: "Is this the VIP line?" — dozens of nonrevelers among the hundreds who waited outside to gain access to the private pool party. The answer was no.
What: SPIN House
Where: The Commune at Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs
Who: An eclectic crowd of scantily clad hipsters (and a few of their dogs) sunning by the pool, heavily drinking free beer and sparkling wine and posing for selfies with SPIN beach balls.
The Music: King Tuff, Nite Jewel and ANTWON offered upbeat, abridged sets on a poolside stage, while Chrome Sparks DJed indie rock between performances.
Cliche Count: Throughout the afternoon shindig, we counted six non-ironic Speedos, three fanny packs (one sequined), two girls wearing feathered gold tiaras, a dozen fedoras and enough Ray-Bans to fill the swimming pool. Bonus points: The free beer was Stella.
Overheard: "That's the girl who broke up David Arquette and Courteney Cox!" — a group of girls, pointing to a gaunt, bikini-ed model.
WITH A CHERRY ON TOP: British model socialite Pixie Geldof at the NYLON and Boss event.
What: NYLON Magazine + Boss Orange by Hugo Boss Escape House
Where: A bed and breakfast that was converted into a music and fashion funhouse.
Who: Chloe Sevigny, Kate Bosworth, Sky Ferreira, Whitney Port, The Misshapes and Hayley Williams, who was sporting yellow and orange hair and told THR, "I always feel like a nerd at Coachella, but I love all the performers, so I always try to come." Basically, the cool kids who read or have been on the cover of the music and fashion 'zine.
The Music: A live performance by Eve brought the house down, while DJ sets by Chelsea Leyland, Pixie Geldof and one-time supermodel Irina Lazareanu kept the normally quiet street vibrating — literally.
Cliche Count: This is where flower power took over, and the trendy pages of NYLON came to life. Thirteen flower wreaths, 15 floral and printed cover-ups, 22 reflective sunglasses encased in neon frames and about 20 boys in short shorts and striped tanks. Plus, one woman with a gold headpiece so large it reached her knees — she counted for at least five cliches.
Overheard: Paramore singer and NYLON cover girl Hayley Williams telling NYLON's editor in chief Marvin Scott Jarrett that she was "digging all the platform sneakers and fun bikinis."
BEST DRESSED: At Guess' poolside soiree, Christa B. Allen took the black and white tribal look to a fresh new level.
What: The Guess Hotel Pool Party
Where: The Viceroy Palm Springs, where the property’s chic bungalows morphed into gifting and styling suites filled with pieces from Guess’ Festival Collection along with the brand’s new eyewear.
Who: Ashley Benson, Jessica Lowndes, Chloe Sevigny, Chord Overstreet, Christa B. Allen, Jesse Metcalfe and Katharine McPhee, who danced wildly in the pool with friends for much of the afternoon. Pressed Juicery was on tap, and most boldfacers were outfitted in the new Guess Festival Collection.
The Music: DJs including The Misshapes, Kurch, Alex Merrell and Travis Emmons kept the crowd happy with top 40 songs.
Cliche Count: As the sun started to go down, THR spotted 10 sequined bikinis, 12 bustier tops and 20 cross-body leather bags — because, you know, leather usually does well near pool water.
Overheard: "I'm wearing Guess!" 90210 actress Lowndes while playing table tennis. Celebrity endorsement at work.
What: WOMEN WHO ROCK Pool Party hosted by Kelly Rowland
Where: Hard Rock Music Lounge at Hotel Zoso in Palm Springs, a massive activation with nearly a dozen sponsors and a poolside stage. An upstairs lounge boasted artist gifting, while the pool deck featured several bars, including one that made snow cones with Corzo tequila.
Who: A very drunk Las Vegas-type crowd that became sparse later in the afternoon (Audrina Patridge and former Cheetah Girl/Kardashian ex Adrienne Bailon made cameos). Apparently there was a live camel named Lulu in attendance Friday afternoon, but she didn't come back Saturday.
The Music: Performances from Kilo Kish, Heloise & the Savoir Fair, Chanel West Coast, Leah Labelle, plus various DJ sets, which largely consisted of top 40 pop.
Cliche Count: Two thongs, one Native American headdress, two pairs of massive fake breasts shoved into tiny neon bathing suits.
Overheard: "I need to find a gay guy to make out with tonight!" -- said a very drunk, very young female guest who fell over while offering to make us a snow cone at the bar for $5 (they were free).
