Sir Paul Smith Designs Exclusive Prints for 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy'
The British fashion designer created four original silk screen printed posters for the film.
Fashion designers are no strangers to creating costumes for films; Giorgio Armani has done many, Ralph Lauren a few; Ferragamo created shoes for Angelina Jolie to wear in The Tourist. But it's not everyday -- maybe not ever -- that a fashion design creates a poster for a movie. But because Sir Paul Smith worked with director Tomas Alfredson on finding the right 1970's style for the men's suits in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, he was inspired by the film to create four original silk screen printed posters.

The cast of this film is almost enough to let you know its quality: Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Ciaran Hinds, John Hurt and Mark Strong. They all project various elements of what London looked like in the early 70's -- if you happened to be a spy and at the top ranks of British espionage. After all, Tinker Tailor is from a famed book by John LeCarre; it's a classic of the spy literature genre.
The limited edition silk screen posters will be numbered in editions of 50 and signed by Sir Paul Smith (who's dressed The Beatles and the Rolling Stones and every other British pop rock band that was important in the 60's and 70's -- and his mens' clothes are still cool Carnaby Street crossed with Saville Row). Each print will retail for $160, and all the profits go to amFAR. You can get them at any Paul Smith store; in L.A., the store is that lovely pink building on Melrose between La Cienega and Crescent Heights.
