L.A. Designer Trina Turk Hosts MOCA Discussion, Schedules Coachella Fete
Known for her retro prints and colors, the fashionista will pay tribute to '60s designers at a new exhibit and stages a desert reopening around the April music festival.
Trina Turk is often referred to as "L.A.'s Lilly Pulitzer." Her look is ultimate Southern California surf style and Palm Springs with its signature big prints -- all of which just happen to be part of her spring 2012 line. Just check out the windows of Turk's West Third St. store (8008 West Third, 90048), and you'll see what we mean.
And if you want to see Turk in person, there are a few opportunities in the coming weeks.
On Wednesday April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m., Trina will hold a discussion in her store on the MOCA Fashion Exhibit "The Total Look: The Creative Collaboration Between Rudi Gernreich, Peggy Moffitt and William Claxton," with Decades' Cameron Silver and MOCA Director Jeffrey Deitch. Hustle over there if you haven't already seen the show at the MOCA Pacific Design Center.
Then on Thursday, April 19, Turk and her husband and business partner Jonathan Skow will host the tenth anniversary of their Palm Springs boutique (895 North Palm Canyon Drive) -- which we caught Angelina Jolie shopping in a few months ago on her way to the Palm Springs Film Festival.
The event also serves as the "Grand Reopening" ahead of Coachella's second weekend. From 6 to 9 p.m., it should be a fun fashion stop -- particularly since one of our all-time favorite DJs, KCRW's Anne Litt, will be spinning and The One A.M. Radio will play a set.
