Victoria's Secret Model Adriana Lima: No Solid Food or Water Before the Fashion Show

During a glimpse of what goes on at a VS beauty shoot, VS angels Lindsay Ellingson and Candice Swanepoel wear the lingerie giant's cosmetics. Swanepoel, 23, already wise beyond her years, explains the intricate differences and minute subtleties between modeling for a beauty vs. a lingerie campaign.

”With lingerie you have to be more conscious of your body and the way that you move your body. With beauty it's much more intricate -- it's a lot slower. You have to get certain looks, see the colors, it's totally different," says Swanepoel.

Slower... Now we get it.

"When you see your face so close-up, you're really conscious of everything -- the expression in your eyes, and lips," she adds, telling the camera that she loves the classic VS cosmetics "with thick liner, kind of feline. I love a red lip as well."

The Victoria's Secret angels are ready to get in shape for the huge lingerie catwalk show airing on Dec. 4 on CBS. This year’s event will be taped in New York City and will star Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Doutzen Kroes, Erin Heatherton, Lily Aldridge, Swanepoel, Ellingson, and more.

Last year’s show got the best ratings ever in adults 18-49 and women 18-34 and averaged 11.5 million viewers. And if you remember 2011’s show, there was concern about whether angel Lima would make it through the show.

Lima started working out every day with a personal trainer in Aug. In Sept. she ramped it up to twice a day. A nutritionist measured her muscle mass, fat ratio and levels of water retention. He had her drink protein shakes, vitamins and supplements to keep her strong. Lima drank a gallon of water a day.

For nine days pre-show she drank only protein shakes. She stopped a gallon a day water habit two days before the show and drank water normally. Twelve hours before the show she stopped drinking all liquids.  

And then there are the rehearsals, the shows, which are live but recorded so they can be edited and televised on Dec. 4

Presumably they could also edit out any fainting models.
