Chew Headquarters

American Idol musical director Ray Chew, who has worked with everyone from Diana Ross to Alicia Keys, sits at his vintage Hammond B3 organ, high atop Stage 36 at CBS Television City in Los Angeles. Chew works with the series’ set designer every season to construct his home base.

Hidden behind the giant oval screen, Chew makes changes to a musical arrangement displayed on a touch screen. His revisions instantly appear on his band’s digital sheet music.
