'The Avengers' has every chance of becoming the top grossing superhero film of all time at the worldwide box office, based on its record-shattering $200.3 million opening domestically and its sizzling early performance overseas. The pic's worldwide total of $641.8 million after only 12 days has already surpassed the lifetime totals of 'Captain America' ($364 million), 'Thor' ($449 million), 'Iron Man' ($585 million) and 'Iron Man 2' ($624 million). Here’s a look at the top 10 superhero pics of all time before 'The Avengers' knocked them out of the ballpark (every one of them opened in summer). Only one superhero pic — 'The Dark Knight' – has cleared the $1 billion mark. Most believe 'Avengers' will reach those same levels.
