Ferrell joked with THR about his role as Eric Jonrosh, an overweight fictional author: "I play a 300 pound man, so getting into a fat suit, having prosthetics put on and the amount of sweat that collected in my suit, those were my most memorable moments.”
"It was a very easy yes," Wiig told THR of her decision to get involved. "I read [the script] and it was so up my alley, totally my sense of humor."

Wiig plays Cynthia Morehouse, a woman who falls madly in love with her adopted brother Devon Morehouse (Tobey Maguire) at a young age. Their forbidden romance results in a series of complications over many years.
"I play a British actor who is playing a guy from the Northeast who is pretending to be from Texas, so I have a faux Texas accent but I slip into a British accent from time to time," Robbins explained his complicated role as oil-rich Jonas Morehouse.
"We heard through the grapevine that IFC was looking for a project and we didn’t have one," writer Steele told THR. "Then Matt wrote a text to me that said, 'The Spoils of Babylon: the epic miniseries based on the bestselling novel of all time.' That was all we needed."
"I think he’s published twenty-nine novels under his own name and under pseudonyms like Carl Bulge he did a biker novel. He did some stuff that was for the exploitative market," Piedmont joked with THR about the mythical author's equally fictional book collection.

Spade, who plays a talk show host in the miniseries, spoke with THR about how he got involved: “Matt [Piedmont] roped me into it. I’ve known him for years. I just wanted to do something stupid in it and he found something stupid."
"This is the craziest and most creative bunch of people I’ve ever been around. It was all just so dreamlike and wonderful," Tom recalled his experience on set. "I got to work with Val Kilmer. Come on. Are you kidding?"
The actress plays Marianne Morehouse, the daughter of Devon Morehouse (Tobey Maguire) and Lady Anne (voiced by Carey Mulligan), a mannequin. "Working with Kristen Wiig and Tobey Maguire together there wasn’t a dull moment," Howie told THR. "There was a lot of twerking happening.”
