From bold orange lips at Rag & Bone to milkmaid braids at Rebecca Minkoff, here are this season's most alluring looks to hit the runway.

Adding to this year's milkmaid and punk-inspired styles, hair stylists continued the braid parade for 2014. TRESemme stylist Jeanie Syfu followed designer Rebecca Minkoff's vision of Frida Kahlo to create the wrapped-braid style at Minkoff's show; chunky French braids were the signature hair look at Kenneth Cole, courtesy of Esther Langham for Beauty.com; and Sebastian Professional stylist Anthony Cole went minimalist with small chain braids pulled into textured ponytails at Christian Siriano.

For makeup artist Mai Quynh, whose clients include Scarlett Johansson and Reese Witherspoon, the matte orange lip is one of the freshest looks from this season's shows, seen at Rag & Bone, Nanette Lepore and DKNY. "I love this makeup trend because it brightens up the face without having to wear too much makeup. Plus, it's a nice change from the usual reds, wines and fuchsias," said Quynh.

Although there were some distinctly grunge moments at the shows, a contrast of pretty pastels was even more evident. Makeup artist Romy Soleimani swept Stila Cha Cha eye shadow (a soft green shade) across models' lids at Lela Rose, while MAC Lime and Beautiful Iris were the shadow shades at Costello Tagliapietra, and nails were done in Essie Lilacism (a pale purple) at Wes Gordon.

Clothing may have struck a neutral note at Jason Wu, but makeup artist Diane Kendal took the makeup to a glitzier level by applying Lancome bronze shadow to models' lids and topping it with gold glitter. Eyes at Adam Selman also received the sparkle treatment with a navy glitter, and MAC Dual Jewel added shimmer to the inner corners of models' eyes at Prabal Gurung for ICB. Always one for a splash of fun, Cynthia Rowley had her ladies wear Essie Stroke of Brilliance and Set in Stones on their nails.

For makeup artists at Michael Kors, Jenny Packham, Mara Hoffman and Trina Turk, the goal with cheeks was to give the face a natural flush of color. At Packham, Talia Shobrook used Laura Mercier creme cheek colour in Sunrise (a soft orange); at Hoffman's show, Alice Lane used Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Candy Coral, which was applied high on the cheeks and pulled down to give a natural-looking flush. Artist Sarah Lucero used Stila at Trina Turk to imitate the rosy glow you'd get on a road trip through California.

"We're seeing a lot of clean but slightly lived-in blowouts, like at Proenza Schouler," says Mara Roszak, who styles the tresses of Emma Stone, Mila Kunis and Lily Collins. Whether it's worn down or thrown into a messy top knot (seen at Kate Spade) or low ponytail (seen at Jason Wu), "All have a feel of ease," says Roszak.

File this under "Trend You Won't Be Wearing." Not every look from the runways is meant to be worn by the masses, and this includes the fauxhawk strips at Zero + Maria Cornejo and CZAR by Cesar Galindo. At CZAR, stylists put rhinestones in a mohawk line from hairline to nape to give the feel of a "techno ponytail." This veered away from the beautiful simplicity seen at other shows, which will predictably make more of an impact in the coming seasons than fauxhawk strips.
