Nora Ephron's Movie Posters: Snapshots of a Legendary Career
Prolific writer-director Nora Ephron died on June 26 in New York after a battle with leukemia. She was 71. The witty and acerbic writer established herself as the screenwriter of influential romantic comedies such as "When Harry Met Sally" and "You've Got Mail," along with one of the few successful women directors in Hollywood. Silkwood
Nora Ephron and Alice Arlen co-wrote the screenplay for the 1983 film, which was based on the the true-life story of Karen Silkwood, who died in a car accident while investigating alleged wrongdoing at the plutonium plant where she worked. The film earned five Academy Award nominations, including Ephron's first nomination for best original screenplay.

Heartburn
Directed by Mike Nichols, Heartburn is based on Ephron's semi-autobiographical novel of the same name, which was inspired by her second marriage to Carl Bernstein. The 1986 film follows Rachel (Meryl Streep), a food writer, who meets Washington columnist Mark (Jack Nicholson) at a wedding and falls in love with him.

When Harry Met Sally
The film that made the deli sandwich scandalous and the phrase “I’ll have what she’s having” unforgettable, When Harry Met Sally was penned by Ephron, and explored the question of if men and women could really be just friends.

Ephorn co-wrote the 1989 comedy starring Emily Lloyd as the daughter of a mobster who, after 13 years in jail, wants to reconnect with his daughter.

My Blue Heaven
Ephron wrote the screenplay for the 1990 comedy film, which has often been compared to Goodfellas. At the time, Ephron was married to Nicholas Pileggi, whose book Wiseguy was the basis for Goodfellas.

This Is My Life
The 1992 film following an aspring stand-up comedian named Dottie Ingels (Julie Kavner) marked the directorial debut of Ephron. Ephron and her sister Delia also co-wrote the screenplay based on the book This Is Your Life by Meg Wolitzer.

Sleepless in Seattle
An ode to An Affair to Remember, Sleepless in Seattle was perhaps one of Ephron's most well-known and successful films. It also garnered two Academy Award nominations, including one for best original screenplay (Ephron's third nomination).

Mixed Nuts
Based on French comedy film, Le Père Noël Est Une Ordure, Mixed Nuts was directed by Ephon, and stars Steve Martin as the owner of an organization dedicated to helping the depressed and troubled in Venica, Calif.

1996's feel-good film Michael featuring John Travolta as the Archangel Michael was directed and co-written Ephron.

You've Got Mail
Directed, written and produced by Ephron, You've Got Mail brought romantic comedies into the digital age by following two e-mailing pen pals (Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan) who fall in love virtually without knowing that they are really rival bookstore owners.

Hanging Up
Written and produced by Ephron, 2000s' Hanging Up stars Diane Keaton (who also directed), Meg Ryan and Lisa Kudrow as three sisters dealing with the deal of their father. The screenplay was an adaptation of the novel written by Ephron's sister, Delia. The sisters also later collaborated on on a play, Love, Loss, and What I Wore, which ran for over two and a half years Off Broadway.

Lucky Numbers
Directed by Ephron, Lucky Numbers stars John Travolta as a local weatherman who finds a way to rig the Pennsylvania Lottery with the help of his girlfriend Crystal (Lisa Kudrow).

Bewitched
Ephron wrote, produced and directed the 2005 re-imagining of the TV series by the same name. Starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell, Bewitched was Ephron’s first film endeavor in the five years since she produced, wrote and directed Lucky Numbers.

Julie & Julia
Ephron based the screenplay for Julie & Julia, her final film, on two books: Julia Child's autobiography, My Life in France, and a memior and blog written by Julie Powell in which she documented online her daily experiences cooking each of the 524 recipes in Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking. The film earned Streep an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Child.
