The hottest item at the Wednesday amfAR AIDS fundraiser was Richard Gere. Actually, it was a B&W portrait of Gere by Robert Mapplethorpe, who died of AIDS in 1989. Celeb chef Padma Lakshmi kissed Gere’s photo a few times to demonstrate the appeal to the bidding audience.
The gala was hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker. Stars lincluded designer Kenneth Cole, "Project Runway" host Heidi Klum, Julianne Moore, director Woody Allen, Jennifer Hudson, Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford, who presented an award to Roberto Cavalli. The event raised more than $1.4 million for AIDS research.
