When Celine Dion booked a four-year stint at Caesars Palace in 2003, people thought she was crazy. Now everyone from Motley Crue to Britney Spears is following suit.

Bette Midler
The Divine Miss M began her two-year run as a headliner at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in February 2008, as the town's two toughest years were dawning. On closing night of The Showgirl Must Go On, she triumphantly announced, "I survived!"

Boyz II Men
After a successful run at the Mirage Hotel and Casino in March, the R&B trio announced its return in 2014.

Britney Spears
Britney Spears has played Vegas before -- her 2001 performance at the MGM Grand Garden Arena was the basis for her Britney Spears Live from Las Vegas concert movie -- but her upcoming residency is unprecedented: Two years at Planet Hollywood beginning in December 2013, to coincide with the release of her eighth studio album. Tickets are selling well. Said Tariq Shaukat, Caesars' chief marketing officer: "This is as strong an on-sale performance as we've seen for any of our iconic Las Vegas headliner shows. Interest in our VIP packages and meet and greets has been incredible. The vast majority of those packages we've placed on sale have sold out."

Carlos Santana
The guitar legend took his Supernatural Santana – A Trip through the Hits tour to the Hard Rock's The Joint in 2011. He's currently headlining Las Vegas' House of Blues at the Mandalay Bay with his latest stage show, An Intimate Evening with Santana: Greatest Hits Live.

Cee Lo Green
The flamboyant coach of The Voice performed a two-month stint at Planet Hollywood. Called Cee Lo Green is Loberace, the 90-minute set featured acrobatic female dancers, 3D graphics and costumes as fun and out-there as the singer himself.

Celine Dion
The French-Canadian singer has completed two residencies at Caesars Palace's Colosseum. The first, A New Day …, ran from 2003-07. She returned to the venue in 2011 with Celine, a three-year residency in which she performed 70 shows a year. Dion is credited with revolutionizing the entertainment scene in Vegas by making it a destination for artists far from past their prime.

Cher
The singing icon signed a $60 million per-year deal in 2008 to headline the Colosseum at Caesars Palace for three years.

Deadmau5
Big-name DJs have become a hot ticket in Vegas, where they can command rates as high as $300,000 a night. Deadmau5 and Tiesto both signed two-year deals in a $65 million-plus contract package with the Hakkasan nightclub in the MGM Grand.

Def Leppard
In 2013, Def Leppard played an 11-show residency at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino from March 22 to April 13. They performed the album Hysteria in its entirety.

Elton John
In October 2003, Elton John signed a deal to perform 75 concerts at Caesars Palace in a show called The Red Piano, alternating nights with Celine Dion. His second residency, The Million Dollar Piano, began at Caesars on Sept. 28, 2011, and is still running.

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw
In April 2013, country couple Faith Hill and Tim McGraw kicked off a 20-show run of their Soul2Soul show at the Venetian.

Guns N' Roses
In 2012, a 12-show residency at the Hard Rock's The Joint came to an end with a partial reunion of the band's original lineup, as founding rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin joined the band onstage. Not there: Slash.

Donnie and Marie Osmond
The singer siblings have performed their greatest hits at the Flamingo Las Vegas since 2008.

Meatloaf
On Sept. 26, 2013, the rocker began a three-shows-a-week run of 18 dates at Planet Hollywood. Meatloaf's RockTellz & CockTails show is among the pricier tickets on the strip, with VIP seats running north of $800.

Motley Crue
An Intimate Evening in Hell is the second residency for the '80s metal legends at the Hard Rock's The Joint. Said frontman Vince Neil: "There is no show like this. There never has been, and there never will be. You've seen video fire from other rock acts on tour, but never the real thing. It's more than any rock group has ever produced or attempted. It really is entering the depths of hell. There's fire all around and fire coming down from above."

Prince
In November 2006, Prince opened a nightclub named 3121 at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino. He performed weekly on Friday and Saturday nights until April 2007, when his contract with the Rio ended.

Rod Stewart
In 2011, Rod Stewart signed on to a two-year residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in which he performed his greatest hits as well as newer songs.

Shania Twain
In late 2012, the country singer announced a residency at Caesars Palace by arriving at the casino's famous fountains on horseback. The show, Still the One, is still running.

Taylor Hicks
The salt-and-pepper-haired American Idol season-five winner has recently extended his residency at the Paris Las Vegas by one year.
