Tom Green is going to be delivering scares instead of laughs in his first horror project Bethany, which has been picked up for distribution by Uncork’d Entertainment.

The film from director James Cullen Bressack centers on a young woman named Claire (Stefanie Estes) who moves back to her childhood home only to be haunted by her imaginary friend from when she was a child. The pic also stars Zack Ward as Claire's husband, and Shannen Doherty as Claire's late mother. Green is playing the young woman's psychiatrist.

“I strongly feel this is my best film as a filmmaker," Bressack said Monday in a statement. "It's a much more mature and personal piece for me, and I cannot wait for people to see this one."

The director wrote the film with Ward. Kenneth Gust, Ace Underhill, Doherty, Shant Jordan and Shahen Jordan produced alongside Bressack and Ward.

On the set of the film last year, Green spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about this role being a departure for the comedian.

"I've obviously done a lot of outrageous characters and ridiculous things in my TV show, and this is a more serious role," he said.

Uncork'd has picked up worldwide distribution rights for Bethany, and is eyeing a theatrical and VOD release for early 2017.
