Anchor Bay Picks Up Horror Movie 'Muck' (Exclusive)
Anchor Bay Entertainment has picked up the U.S. and Canadian distribution rights to Muck, the debut horror movie from Steve Wolsh.
The company is planning a theatrical release in the first quarter of 2015 and then plans to release across all platforms.
In an interesting move, the flick is the middle chapter of a horror trilogy, with the first installment not even shot yet. The three films will bookend each other, taking place the day before, day of, and the day after a Saint Patrick's Day in Cape Cod, Mass., where Muck was filmed on location.
Featuring horror vet Kane Hodder, Muck starts off with a group of friends emerging from the foggy darkness of a marsh, tattered and bloody, and lucky to be alive. They take shelter in an empty Cape Cod vacation house but soon learn that something more savage is lying in wait in the house, even as what was in the marsh still wants them dead.
The cast also includes Australian actor Lachlan Buchanan and 2012 Playboy Playmate of the Year Jaclyn Swedberg.
All three films will be independently financed and produced by Wolsh through WithAnO Productions. Preproduction has already begun for the Muck prequel, titled Muck: Feast of Saint Patrick.
Anchor Bay plans to unveil its first official theatrical trailer for Muck at Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo 2014, which runs Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 in Los Angeles.
Wolsh, Hodder and Swedberg are expected to attend as are the actors who will appear in the prequel, LeeAnna Vamp and Playboy Playmates of the Year Raquel Pomplun (2013) and Kennedy Summers (2014).
