Archie Andrews has had an unusual year; in one series, he’s been witness to the beginnings of a zombie apocalypse, and in another he’s been shot dead saving the life of his best friend. Things are only going to get stranger next year, when the all-American high-school heartthrob meets an unstoppable extra-terrestrial killing machine in the newly-announced Archie Meets Predator series.

Co-published by Archie Comics and Dark Horse Comics, the four-issue series will feature Archie (and his Pals & Gals, of course) running into the 20th Century Fox monster while on spring break in Costa Rica, according to writer Alex de Campi. “After Betty is revealed to be borrowing Cheryl Blossom's clothes to compete [in a best-dressed contest], she and Veronica have a fight and she tearfully runs off into the jungle where, let's say, she isn't alone,” the writer told USA Today.

“The Archie team are really supportive of all the horrible things I'm doing to their beloved characters — in fact, they suggested a few of them,” she explained. “Our conference call where we basically spitballed the entire series was a complete hoot, and I really feel they've got my back.”

The Predator is only the latest unexpected co-star to appear alongside Archie Andrews. In addition to real-life celebrities including Barack Obama, Sarah Palin, George Takei and the band KISS, the long-lived character has also co-headlined comics with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the high-school students of Glee’s McKinley High and Marvel Entertainment’s urban vigilante, the Punisher.

Archie Meets Predator, illustrated by veteran Archie artist Fernando Ruiz, will launch in Spring 2015, becoming the second big event for the character that year; Lena Dunham is already scheduled to write a four-part storyline for the publisher at some point during the year.
