'The Art of The Book of Life' Preview: How to Design a Villain

An exclusive look at the collection of concept art from the upcoming animated movie

Ahead of the Oct. 17 release of The Book of Life, the animated collaboration between Gullermo del Toro and Jorge R. Guiterrez, Dark Horse Comics has released The Art of The Book of Life, a collection of concept art from the visually stunning movie.

The hardcover features artwork from Guiterrez, the Mexican animator best known for the Nickelodeon series El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera who co-wrote and directed the movie, with additional commentary and artwork from Paul Sullivan, the movie’s art director. Producer Del Toro provides a foreword.

Released in comic book stores this week, The Art of The Book of Life won’t hit mainstream bookstores until October 14. Before then, here’s an exclusive look at some pages focusing on the design of the villain of the movie, Xibalba.
