The hype for Marvel’s epic superhero flick The Avengers continued to build as Disney released some of the first official photos for the film.

PHOTOS: 'The Avengers': New Photos From Marvel's Superhero Film

While some of the images were previewed in Entertainment Weekly, a couple were completely new.

One shows Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans) looking up towards the camera. Another shows director Joss Whedon talking with Scarlett Johansson on set.

Most of the photos show The Avengers cast looking at stuff, which doesn’t give a ton of clues about the film, but, combined with the footage that was shown at Disney’s D23 conference this summer, is enough to satiate fans appetites until the film opens in May 2012.

In one photo, a serene looking Johansson, who plays Black Widow, looks down while something explodes behind her. In another, Tom Hiddleston, who plays Thor’s (Hemsworth) brother Loki can be seen walking after being captured by S.H.I.E.L.D.

The superhero film has plenty of star-power in its ensemble cast, including Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Hiddleston, Colbie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo and Chris Evans.
