Grant Morrison's 'Batman Incorporated' Leads DC Comics' 'Second Wave'
The company canceled six books that were underperforming in sales.
DC Comics is determined not to let any dust settle from “The New 52,” its much-buzzed-about relaunch that re-sets the company’s books and hit sales records throughout the fall.
The company has canceled six books it deemed underperformers and is unleashing what it is calling “Second Wave,” led by a Batman book written by comics superstar Grant Morrison.
Batman Incorporated was a Morrison-written comic that was cut short when the relaunch was initiated but now the company is bringing it back with a new issue No. 1. The comic continues Morrison’s take on the Batman myth, which sees the Caped Crusader create Batman franchises around the globe as he prepares to fight an international threat. Chris Burnham is the artist.
Other books include:
- Earth 2, written by James Robinson and art by Nicola Scott, and stars the Justice Society,
- World’s Finest, which spins the classic Batman-Superman team-up on its head by focusing on the Huntress and Power Girl. Paul Levitz is writing while George Perez and Kevin Maguire alternate on the art;
- Dial H, which sees British fantasy author China Mieville make his comics debut with a new take on anybody-can-be-a-hero title Dial H for “Hero” (Mateus Santoluoco is on art duties);
- G.I. Combat, which will be a war anthology book starting with the features The War That Time Forgot, The Unknown Soldier and The Haunted Tank;
- The Ravagers, a spin-off from the recently launched Teen Titans and Superboy comics.
The six canceled titles are Blackhawks, Hawk and Dove, Men of War, Mister Terrific, O.M.A.C., and Static Shock, which will end their runs with issue No. 8 in April.
