For a future villain, Joe Manganiello is being very supportive of Batman.

The actor, who is set to play Deathstroke in Ben Affleck's standalone Batman film, shared details of his early meeting with the movie's director when he stopped by the Mark Madden, Super Genius podcast this week.

"I think the audience is going to be surprised, because it’s a road that no one’s really gone down that’s completely integral to who Batman is," Manganiello said. "I think it’s gonna be refreshing, but at the same time completely familiar. But it’s going to take this franchise in a direction that I think a lot of people are going to be really happy about."

Manganiello went on to praise Affleck's Oscar-winning directorial skills, and promised the movie would be "gritty and action-packed and cerebral and all of those elements that people love about Batman."

So far, Affleck has appeared as the Dark Knight in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, and he's set to star in next November's Justice League. Affleck has indicated his film will be called The Batman, though that title could change. No start date has been set for the movie, which will also star Jeremy Irons as Alfred and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.

The interview starts at the 14:20 mark (as first spotted by Batman News).

Affleck revealed a first look at Deathstroke in August.
