Brainiac Lays Out His Fiendish Plan in New 'Lego Batman 3' Trailer
If you’re wondering what it would take to get Batman out of Gotham and into space, the latest trailer for Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham offers a hint. Spoilers: It involves someone stealing the planet. Oh, and maybe mind-controlling the Dark Knight while he’s doing it.
Beyond the enjoyable sight of Batman trying to kill Robin (like you wouldn’t want to do the same after the 50th “Holy artificially constructed reference to our current predicament!” pun), the trailer centers around Brainiac, an alien supercomputer that traditionally travels across space, stealing cities from planets and storing them in glass jars. If that sounds somewhat unlikely, please consider that the character debuted in 1958, when science — and science fiction — were a slightly more inexact art.
Fans of DC Entertainment’s characters also will note that the trailer showcases the wider mythology of the Green Lantern series, with quick cameos from representatives of the Red Lanterns, Blue Lanterns, Sinestro Corps, Indigo Tribe and Star Sapphires, alongside more familiar characters. All we need is Larfleeze to show up and we’ll have a full set.
Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham will be released later this year. Good luck getting that “I’ve Got the Whole World in My Pants” song out of your head for the next few hours.
