'Captain America: The Winter Soldier': First Image Released as Production Begins
Marvel unveils a new image of Chris Evans from the April 4, 2014, release.
The first image for Captain America: The Winter Soldier has made its way to the web.
Just as Marvel announced production on the Captain America sequel commenced Monday in Los Angeles, the studio released an image of Captain America (Chris Evans) in shadow with his iconic shield behind him. Other filming locations include Cleveland and Washington, D.C.
The Winter Soldier picks up where The Avengers left off, with Steve Rogers struggling to embrace his role in the modern world, with the help of Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) to fight a "powerful yet shadow enemy" in D.C.
The cast for The Winter Soldier includes Robert Redford (Agent Alexander Pierce), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Falcon), Cobie Smulders (Agent Maria Hill), Frank Grillo (Brock Rumlow), Georges St-Pierre (Georges Batroc), Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter), Toby Jones (Arnim Zola), Emily VanCamp (Agent 13) and Maximiliano Hernandez (Agent Jasper Sitwell).
Anthony and Joe Russo are directing from a screenplay by Christopher Markus.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is producing, with Alan Fine, Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee executive producing.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters April 4, 2014, following Marvel's Iron Man 3 (May 3) and Thor: The Dark World (Nov. 8).
